When did Couture start?  or was it always the way?  Well this article says and to be honest it sounds right that couture started with Charles Worth…and Empress Eugenie.  Rhett Butler in GWTW got that right and he and his new bride Scarlett were so enamored of the well dressed queen that they named their daughter after her and the English monarch at the time: Eugenie Victoria or better known as Bonnie Blue Butler.

Despite haute couture‘s association with France, it was actually an Englishman, Charles Worth, born in humble Lincolnshire, who was the ‘father of haute couture’. Charles Worth rose to fame in the 1860s when he relocated to Paris and started making rather fabulous outfits for Empress Eugenie, the wife of Napoleon III.
